Improving Economic Environment Should be the Focus: Mr. J. C. Sharma, VC & MD, SOBHA

May 24th, 2019

The immediate focus of the newly elected Government should be on improving the economic environment of the country. To tackle the ongoing job crisis, steps should be taken towards boosting job creation. According to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the unemployment rate stood at 7.60% at the end of April 2019. This clearly indicates the extent of this problem. Equally grave are the concerns around diminishing income of farmers. While there have been announcements to increase their income by 1.5 times the cost of production along with Rs. 6000 a year under PM KISAN, we believe that further concrete initiatives are expected in this direction from the Government.

Similarly, India Inc expects that the Government will continue its work of introducing path-breaking reforms and policies and focus on creating a conducive environment with simpler law vis-à-vis land and labour. Further, there should be adequate steps to ensure that the reforms percolate from the council of ministers to bureaucracy, judiciary, law enforcement bodies and other important establishments. This will foster a favourable ecosystem for India Inc.

Another important area is education. It plays a pivotal role for any society to make steady progress.  We believe that our current education systems needs to be revamped, making it more focused on skills. This will arm our youth with the right skill-sets for the future.
